The Song of Mary

Context: The angel Gabriel has appeared to Mary telling her that she will bear the Messiah. After visiting with Elizabeth and discussing the reality of God's promise, she breaks into a song of praise.

To Get the Most out of Christmas...

1) Adore your God (vs. 46-49)
See also 1 Samuel 2:1, Titus 3:5-6; 1 Corinthians 1:26-28

2) Acquire His Word (vs. 50-53)
Mary was praising God using his own word. She clearly quotes two Psalms here in here praise in verse 50 and 53 she is quoting from Psalm 103:17 and Psalm 107:9.

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

3) Accept His Mercy (vs. 54-56)
Mary closes her praises with an understanding of the historical significance of What God has promised her. Her child was to be the fulfillment of a promise that God made to Abraham.

Genesis 12:3 - And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed."

Genesis 22:18 - "In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."

Genesis 26:4 - "I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;

John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
