Associate Pastor, Minister of Music
Rick Steele- our current SOBC Pastor and Associate Pastor/Minister of Music and has been on staff since January, 1998. After graduating with a Masters of Music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1987, Rick served as Minister of Music and Youth for 10 years in Fishersville Baptist Church, Fishersville,Virginia. While serving there, he was the leader of the Augusta Baptist Association Youth Leadership Council and also lead and organized the music and services for the Fishersville Community Church’s Annual Hymn Sing and the Combined Fishersville Community Churches Thanksgiving Services. Rick has participated in an evangelistic mission trip to Panama(1996), and participated in the Florida Baptist Worship Choir’s trip to the International Church Music Festival in Coventry,England in 2002. He is currently a member of the Florida Baptist Singing Men and Florida Worship Choir and Orchestra.
Currently atSouthOrlandoBaptistChurch, Rick (and his wife Kim) leads the SOBC Praise band and guides choirs for children, youth, adults, orchestra, drama, and ensembles. Each choir strives to present a special program at least once each year, with the Sanctuary Choir presenting specials at Christmas and Easter.
Since 2005, Rick has helped to design and open the School of Fine Arts (SOFA) Ministry which offers students opportunities for musical and spiritual growth. Areas of study include piano, flute, guitar, trumpet, voice, cake decorating, music theory, beginning and advanced art and creative movement.
Next year (2014) Rick and his wife plan to go toNew Yorkwith the Florida Baptist Worship Choir and Orchestra to sing perform inCentral Parkand at Carnegie Hall.
Rick is married to Kim Roberts Steele. They have three grown children, Brandon (UCF), Rebekah (UCF), and Kevin (UF).
What is one of the things you love about serving at SOBC?
I love the “family” spirit as well as the unique grace and dignity shown by everyone here.
What do you like to do for fun?
Ride motorcycles, play piano, swim, walk on the beach at night, travel.
What are your favorite foods?
Anything BBQ, Ham, Deviled Eggs, Filet Mignon, Jalapeno flavored Potato Chips, Grilled Mahi
On Saturdays, I am most likely to be…
Riding my Suzuki motorcycle, doing house cleaning/yardwork, watching sports, or out for the day on a family outing.
My ideal vacation would be…
Anywhere in the Smoky orAppalachian mountainsin the fall to see the leaves change and enjoy cool temperatures. Recently traveled and enjoyed going toIreland,Scotland,Germany, andAustria.
A family tradition that is especially dear to me is…
Going out caroling at Christmas and riding around seeing the Christmas lights!
