The Orlando Massacre – What can I do?
I am in complete shock. The largest shooting in American history has just occurred miles from our church. Fifty precious souls have been taken from our neighborhood, and dozens more are fighting for their lives. As I am processing this unthinkable display of hatred, I have been asking the question, “What can I do?”
1. I can Pray
I am praying for God to bring healing to the victims who are fighting for their lives, and healing to our city. I am seeking opportunities to pray with others. While many prayer vigils are being planned for this week, the Greater Orlando Baptist Association is asking for all of our city churches to gather at First Baptist Church of Orlando this Tuesday night at 7pm. I would encourage all members of South Orlando Baptist Church to participate in this prayer gathering. Click here for more information.
2. I can Give
There are many victims of the shooting who are still fighting for their lives. Please look up and contribute to your local blood bank. You can click here to find the blood banks in your area.
3. I can Speak up
While many in the world will be talking about this horrific event, it is time for the Body of Christ to speak words of comfort, hope, truth, and love.
– The Christian Worldview is the most helpful in times of tragedy. Our God is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18.
– Only the Christian worldview values all people as image bearers of God – regardless of religion or sexual identity – all people matter to God and to His people!
4. I can Refer
– Our church counseling ministry is available to assist anyone who is in need of help. Anyone can call 1-407-859-1536, ext. 133 to set up an appointment.
– Our Sunday night Grief Share class is also available to help any in our community with compassion and support. Click here for more information.
5. I can Equip myself for ministry
This massacre happened in our city and within a few minutes drive of our church. I know that the only thing that can bring lasting change to our community is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This upcoming Sunday, I will be sharing a 6 month vision to get our church more involved in getting the Gospel of Jesus to our community. Begin praying now about what role God would have you to play in reaching our city with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Praying for our city,
– David Crowe
