TRUTH DEFENDERS | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 32
Teacher: Tom Horsfield
The motto of Truth Defenders is to “know truth, love people and engage all cultures” with the truth of Christ. Our aim is to prepare the saint for deeper roles in ministry and equip the saint for spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:10-17). Our method is to cycle through three different types of study: systematic theology, apologetics and worldview:
- Systematic theology is the study of God, how He has revealed Himself through His Word, and what His written Word teaches us.
- Apologetics is the application of biblical principles to provide a rational defense of the truth claims of Christianity (1 Peter 3:15).
- The study of worldview involves how people view and interact with the world around them. Since worldview is based on theology (whether correct or incorrect), it is important for the Christian to understand the worldview of non-Christians for meaningful engagement.
We utilize diverse materials and a conversational lesson style to guide Christians at all levels through the subject matter, encouraging all in their growth in Christ, discipleship and ministry. Since our study topics revolve in cycles, we welcome all to come in at any time to join us.
Koinonia | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 36
Teacher: Larry Miles
Bible Study group led by brother Larry Miles consisting of married and single adults. A community group of friends who pray and care for one another. Weekly Bible lessons are studied and openly discussed in class. A class deep in exposition for those well-studied men and well women, but made simple and relatable for those young in their walk with the Lord
Quest | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 31
Teacher: Charles Eavenson
The Quest Sunday School class starts with prayer requests and praise reports from members. After prayer, we use the Senior Adult Bible Studies for Life material from Lifeway. Join us as we read the Scripture and commentary from the book and discuss it together.
Men Under Construction | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 38
Teacher: Phil Stubbs
What does the Bible say about real-life issues for men, and how can we connect with each other? Our men’s group addresses those issues and encourages each other to get involved with ministry projects and other activities. We participate in events and projects that are designed to encourage the use of individual spiritual gifts.
“Men Under Construction”, is where men of all ages can come together to grow their relationship with Jesus Christ and with each other.
Fellowship | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 34
Teacher: Jo Ann Britton and Rita Barreto
The Fellowship class is a diverse group of active 50+ women representing 6 countries. Discipling is what we are about. We make God’s word applicable to everyday life while encouraging active participation. We develop close relationships as we reach outside our walls to minister to a local homeless organization as well as a missionary to homeless children in the Philippines. The class members are participants with the deacons, choir, ushers, teachers, security, mission’s ministry team, church beautification, creative fellowship (plans/organizes fellowship activities as well as bereavement functions). Come join us!
Young Couples | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 33
Teacher: David Crowe
Our Young Couples exists to know and love Christ while making Him known in our community by loving and serving others. Most all of our class members serve somewhere in the church in any given week. We want to do this while developing deep, authentic relationships with each other through discipleship, prayer, service, and social events. Age range is for couples between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.
Bereans | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 41
Teacher: Mike and Sus Schmitt
The Berean’s small group derives our name from Acts 17:11… “[The Bereans] listened to the message with great eagerness, and every day they studied the Scriptures to see if what Paul said was really true.” We love to understand the Word of God. Our class times include a lot of laughter as we grow together through active participation in group discussions and prayer. We provide an atmosphere where anyone is at ease in discussing the meaning and application of the Scripture passages we study. We also emphasize missions and the opportunities we each have to serve the rest of the South Orlando Baptist community. We share prayer needs during our times together and regularly through email. We enjoy fellowship times outside of class as well.
The Bereans meet at 9:45 AM on Sundays in Shepherds Hall 41.
We welcome adults of all ages who want to explore the Scriptures with us. We welcome visitors and invite you to join us!
Joy – Senior Women | Sundays at 9:45 AM – Shepherd’s Hall | Room 30
Teacher: Vera Walker and Faye Golding
The Joy class loves to fellowship and study the Bible every week. We are always eager to welcome new members and we enjoy sharing life together outside of the class. We have a caring group of ladies who are good listeners for those going through a rough time. As we journey together through life, we enjoy calling on each other throughout the week to continue in fellowship. If you desire to visit our class, we would welcome your presence any Sunday.
