10 Biblical Reasons Why you Should Serve Others (Could also be titled – 10 reasons why you should say, “Yes” the next time you are asked to serve):
- To grow in your relationship with Jesus. Colossians 1:10 (CSB) “so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God,”
- It will help you discover your spiritual gift and function within the church. This will fulfill your purpose and experience true and lasting fulfillment. Romans 12:4–6 (CSB) Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, 5in the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another. 6According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the proportion of one’s faith;
- When you serve – you are using your spiritual gifts and talents for the edification of the kingdom. Ephesians 4:11–12 (CSB) And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12equipping the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ
- Because when you serve, you are obeying a direct command of scripture. Galatians 5:13 (CSB) For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.
- Because you will be following the example of Jesus. Philippians 2:5–8 (CSB) Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, 6who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. 7Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. - Because it glorifies God. Matthew 5:16 (CSB) In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
- Because God has ordained and prepared good works for you to do. Ephesians 2:10 (CSB) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
