God’s word tells us in Hebrews 10:25 –
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (NIV)
From this verse I would like to discuss three things:
1) Don’t give up on Church. (“Let us not give up meeting together”)
The writer of Hebrews encourages his readers to not give up on meeting together. Satan loves for us to get frustrated with each other to the point that we will not attend. And when we do not attend, we struggle in our growth as Christians. Charcoal briquettes burn brighter when they burn together. If you take one briquette and separate it from the others, it gets cool quickly and the fire goes out. The same happens with Christians. When we get together, we are to encourage each other and prepare each other for the return of Jesus Christ, yet when we neglect to meet with each other, our fire for Jesus cools.
2) Develop the habit of attending (“as some are in the habit of doing…”)
Many of us get into a habit of non attendance. It is understood that it takes only 21 days to develop a habit. That means if you miss more than three Sundays in a row, you have just developed a habit of non-attendance. I would encourage you to join us this Sunday and make it a goal to attend for three Sundays in a row. Doing so will help you to develop a habit of attending.
3) Delight in the return of Christ (“and all the more as you see the Day approaching”)
A lot of us are dreading the return of Jesus because we are not living lives that are bringing glory to him. Attending church helps us to know God’s instructions for a glorifying and abundant life. That Jesus gave up his own life for the church means that he ultimately cared for it. As a result, we should also care for the church and value its importance in our lives. It meant a lot to Jesus and it should mean a lot to us.
Join with us this Sunday morning at 11AM for our time of worship!
